Really, why do we need to conclude that the Virginia Tech shootings were someone's fault?

(Well, besides the killer's. And he's dead, so you can't really do anything.)

We have a nation of over 300 million people. And, periodically, we're going to have some societal outlier who is evil and insane enough to do something fucked up and tragic.

I just don't see anything meaningful-yet-reasonable that could prevent this from happening again.

Sorry to be a bummer, but shit happens. There are some seriously bad people in the world and, if they are motivated enough, they can and will do horrible things.
