scalatest and scala 2.7.2 Posted: Sep 22, 2008 1:22 PM

Hi,
I have been using scalatest but I cannot run my tests under scala 2.7.2. Using the UI, I get the following error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: scala.runtime.BoxedObjectArray.elements()Ljava/lang/Object;
at org.scalatest.tools.Runner$.checkArgsForValidity(Runner.scala:449)
at org.scalatest.tools.Runner$.main(Runner.scala:357)
at com.zink.sfly.AllTestsRunner$.main(AllTestsRunner.scala:8)
at com.zink.sfly.AllTestsRunner.main(AllTestsRunner.scala)

I guess scalatest 0.9.3 needs to be updated or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for any help.

Channing

Hi Channing,

Yes, I need to do another release for 2.7.2. 2.7.2 is a release candidate right now, but I'll go ahead and do the build for it and put it on the website. I'll try and get that on there later today. I'll just update it once it is released for real.

Thanks.

Bill

Hi Channing,

I got the 0.9.3 build going under 2.7.2. Had to make a few changes to get it to compile under 2.7.2, and the only thing remaining is to get the latest ScalaCheck I think, because those tests are failing. Sorry for the delay, but I'm traveling with intermittent internet access. Will have it out soon.

I updated the code to integrate with ScalaCheck 1.4, the latest release, but three of my tests still failed. I think the problem is likely that ScalaCheck also will need to be recompiled under 2.7.2. But I've put up the JAR file anyway, so you can use all the other stuff with 2.7.2.RC2. If you really need to use ScalaCheck from ScalaTest right now, then you should use it with the 2.7.1.final release and ScalaCheck 1.3.

The URL where you can download the zip file is:

Hi Bill.

When are you planning on shipping the next major release of ScalaTest with for example the JMock stuff you have in SVN etc.?

Thanks, Jonas.

Hi Jonas,

I saw ScalaTest in your list of tools you said you were using in your Scala in the Real World blog post. I also saw TestNG. Are you using TestNGSuite to get at IDE support? I know of some others who are doing that.

I have been focused on getting the book to the printer since the previous release of ScalaTest. I will be sending it to the printer probably early next week. After that I'm going to focus on getting the next release of ScalaTest ready. I need to release 0.9.4 of ScalaTest before the book starts shipping, because I mention that release in the book. So I expect the 0.9.4 release will come out in late October.

Can you let me know what you'd most like to see in the next release? You mentioned JMock support. Is that your highest priority?

Thanks.

Bill

It is the latest pseudo-released one. I did manage to do some work on ScalaTest on the plane ride back from Belgium. I think I basically only need a tad more documentation and I'll be ready for the 0.9.4 release. Let me see if I can't get that out the door by tomorrow.

Update: I have spent about 2.5 days on ScalaTest this week. Getting closer. Had a bit more work to do on it to get it to the 0.9.4 release than I thought. One thing is I don't like releasing things without good scaladoc documentation, so I've been doing a lot of that. But also some tests and coding to make things complete. Should be out in the next few days.
