"Technology will only get better. And contrary to the technology-doomsayers, this is a potential for making human life more, not less, human. But just at the cusp of this future, at the same time that we are being pushed to the world where anyone can 'rip, mix [and] burn,' a countermovement is raging all around. To ordinary people, this slogan from Apple seems benign enough; to the lawyers who prosecute the laws of copyright, the very idea that the music on 'your' CD is 'your music' is absurd," says this article:

It?s fascinating to watch how the industrial age is slow creeping into the services age.
The laws on copyright went through a massive change in the 1970?s. The change was simple, but dramatic:
Before copyright change: As a service employee (contractor), you gave up all intellectual writes to the person that contracted your services.
After copyright change: As a service employee (contractor), you maintained all intellectual writes to your services, unless other wise expressly written.

The video age:
The Supreme Court has already ruled, a person is allowed to video tape anything played over the public airways, and use it for their personal (non-commercial) use. NFL lost that battle.

The age of the Internet:
Biz and society will have to take on a new reality as we continue to adapt. Soon, a music company will not be able to charge $19 for an album with only 1 good song. Musicians will not be worth $100 Million dollars. But, are we going to fast for people to adapt? Instead of culture shock, will we have Future Shock?
