ClassFormatError

Hi,
I'm getting a ClassFormatError with message "Illegal Constant Pool Type." I have a custom class loader and this error occurs when I call method defineClass. I'm using jdk1.2.2-006, but am impelmenting the java1.1 custom class loader (implementing method loadClass).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
