Among other things.
South Florida is a strange place. You have retirees, people from Latin America who came to escape oppression, tourists, drug runners, people of low means who came to escape the cold, and people of high means who came to hide money from creditors via Florida's unique homesteading law ( http://www.alperlaw.com/moving_to_florida.html ).
If you get a chance, read one of Carl Hiaasen's novels. They are comedies, but they give an accurate flavor of the place. :-)
