Back when JavaOne meant something, I was quite upset that I never was able to go. The dotcom days kept me busy slaving away for my options, and despite there being an abundance of cash it never seemed to flow my way. My bid for a code generation talk with Jack Herrington a few years ago was the last time I even cared enough to submit a talk proposal. In a highly competitive market for talks (who wants to pay to get in?) the talk was a little too un-PC for Sun's agenda and didn't make it.
But this year, I'll actually be there. I'll have a few shifts in the JBoss Booth. Beyond that, I'm hoping to do a little promotion of
the new book, which is being released at the conference. I'll hit a few sessions and a party or two, but mostly I guess I'll just be playing the networking game. There are lots of people I want to stop and chat with, so hopefully I'll run into everyone I want to.
