It would be super-sweet to be able to get Bluetooth keyboards to work with the iPhone; it’s clearly possible, Cydia has an application for it on jailbroken phones. I mean, Apple spends its time stopping people jailbreaking while not providing any options for real people to do these things on the phones.
Yes, I understand the nature of the closed platform is that they can guarantee things work because they don’t let people mess with the internals, but even Google realises the value in having a “developer mode”, something akin to the “I am not a dummy” mode in ircII, where people who truly want to do these things can do so without having to be branded grey-market application thieves.
Even Sony get this; yes, Apple, Sony is more open than you, at least the fat PS3 could run Linux officially, giving them a useful secondary market (though I hardly think selling to nerds and educational institutions, or; just nerds, has been a real money-spinner).
Actually, it’ll be interesting to see if that carries through to the production net-books running ChromeOS. At least with the G1 (being the developer phone) the option always exists to run your own firmware (though, without the bundled applications). I think 11-13”, thin, light, with a superb battery would be a sweet spot, but now that I’ve been retouching 10MP images more often, I’m beginning to see the benefit of having decent IO, RAM and CPU; yes, there’s a reason people still buy real laptops.
Dear Apple, I would like to be treated as a grown-up, without having to completely tossed out of the walled-garden Eden that is access to legitimate updates and the app store.
