I loved going to shop class in middle school.  Not that I was particularly good or enjoyed the teachers¹ (mind you, they were very nice people but by no means my favorite teachers), it was the chance to wash my hands at the end of class.  Both wood and metal shops had Boraxo powdered soap in the metal dispensers.  It was like rubbing fine grit sandpaper over your hands and it felt awesome.

There’s nothing like the feeling of finely-abraded hands.
