Hey charltonb,
Thanks for the interesting post. As cloud computing in constantly evolving and expanding, I think maybe people and organization might be too quick in their decision “to move to the cloud” and they don’t necessarily consider all the factors.
As for moving to a private cloud, as you said in your conclusions, even after all considerations are taken into account, there is still need to research cloud and cloud services providers to know exactly what they offer and how it can be suited to the organization’s needs. For example, the availability of tools based on the public cloud which are suited to an organization’s needs, and their cost, might affect a decision to go public vs. private. I came across a post recently showing the big variety of cloud-based tools available for the development of web applications, from storage and DBs through code hosting and load testing to issue tracking and helpdesk. For development-oriented organizations such as those I work for, these types of tools can make or break the decision to go it alone and install everything on a private cloud or go public. Keren
