Tipping Point Cover I have been reading, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference. I am not done yet, but it is a very interesting read. The book centers around three rules of Epidemics

  1. The Law of the Few
  2. The Stickiness Factor
  3. The Power of Context

During one of the chapters on the Power of Context, Gladwell (author), mentions the "Broken Windows" theory:

...Crime is the inevitable result of disorder. If a window is broken and left unpaired, people walking by will conclude that no one cares and no one is in charge. Soon, more windows will be broken, and the sense of anarchy will spread from the building to the street on which it faces, sending a signal that anything goes. In a city, relatively minor problems like graffiti, public disorder, and aggressive panhandling, they [James Q. Wilson and George Kelling] write, are all the equivalent of broken windows, invitations to more serious crimes. [Tipping Point, page 141]

Some might now be thinking, what's the point? What does this have to do with Blog Spam? Blog Spam is getting worse everyday, but it is extremely important that while new tools are being created to help manage and combat it, that you do your part in the mean time and delete anything and everything which resembles spam. The spammers expect you to delete most of their spam messages. But what they hoping is that you miss one here and there. The more spam is not deleted, the more you will be spammed. So please, delete, delete, delete. The summer build of .Text will have quite a few changes/features which help, but the most important thing you can do in the mean time is to make sure spammers are wasting their time by spamming you.
