Maybe the power generation shortage the Washington Post reported on (coming for my area by 2012, based on current trends in not building capacity) is already happening - or maybe the general sux0rness of power in my neighborhood is the culprit again.
When I got up this morning, I discovered that the Linux box was down, the old Mac Mini was down, and the old Windows box was hibernating. The first two are on UPS (the third is a battery driven laptop). The UPS is god for around 30-40 minutes (especially when the monitors are off), so it was a longer than normal outage. Ever since this neighborhood was built we've had "mini outages", so I've gotten used to the idea that the original wiring of the neighborhood was screwed up. This was different though; usually, the outages are weather related. I suppose there could have been some kind of accident; either way, I find it deeply irritating.
I have less than no sympathy for the morons standing in the way of getting more power generation capacity for my area. A shortage in the summer months could be deadly; just google this to see what happens when you combine a heat wave with no A/C.
