Earlier today, Annick Fron was asking in the VWNC mailing list how James Robertson gets his snazzy little green mouse click circles in the videos he makes. They come from iShowU, a snazzy little app on the mac that records movies. And the follow up question was of course, can it be done in Smalltalk.

I hate it when the gauntlet is thrown like that. I coded it up an example in 10 minutes and published it to the OpenRepository as AnnicksView. Of course, I couldn't stop at the simple green circle. No, if I'd done that, I'd have gotten to bed on time. Instead I spent the next 45 minutes goofing around with different effects. Adding not only the mouse down, but also the mouse up, as well as the mouse moves.

I took a movie it running on Vista under VMWare on my MBP. Rather than use iShowU, I've been playing around with Jing. So here's the Jing-Cast of my dragging the mouse around and clicking. The green circle looked better. I should have gone to bed.
