I heard Leo Laporte criticize Palm Pre battery life on TwIT today, and I just ran across this:

The Palm Pre launched on Saturday and it looks like the Pre is not free from launch hardware issues. In the Palm support community several users report that their Palm Pre gets extremely hot during charging and the battery is dying after 3 hours on stand-by.

That's a killer. The g-phone has also been dogged by reports of poor battery life. You can get an iPhone to blow battery too - all you need to do is turn on all the radios at once (3g, wifi, and bluetooth). Absent that, it gets really good life, and just in pure phone mode, it has astoundingly good talk time. In "airplane mode", I've watched video and played games all the way across the Atlantic. If there's one thing Palm needed to get right, it was battery life. Smart phone users want to use their devices a lot, so having a battery thay gives up the ghost quickly is just a killer...
