Charles Miller spots a Facebook ad that uses an odd image - Edward Norton from "American History X" - to promote some kind of workout product. Norton's character sported some inrteresting tatoos in that flick, leading Charles to wonder:

Reputable sites often run disreputable adverts, but generally they blame their provider and take steps to avoid the offending ads appearing again. Facebook, though, is the provider. The fact that this sort of thing is a par for the course on the site is a bad sign. It suggests Facebook is so desperate to get anyone to advertise that they can't afford to exercise any quality control.

I have been skeptical of the value of the ad model (as the only revenue stream) for awhile now. I like Facebook, and it's got a ton of members - but what are they doing for revenue?
