Movies do this too; "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon" (along with a few made for TV howlers) appeared at once; now we have a remake of "V" coming, and it looks like "Day One" is an alien invasion story as well. It would be interesting to follow the approval process for this kind of thing, just to see how much copying is happening, versus just having a meme floating around...
