I've been having intermittent troubles with the mac - sometimes on reboot I'd get a black screen, and have to power cycle. Yesterday, after the 10.5.8 update, it got worse - I started seeing random lockups while it was running. Off to the Apple Store, and I found out that it's a known issue with the model I have - some kind of conflict between the NVidia graphics adaptor and the OS. It's being shipped out for a fix, and should be back within a week. In the meantime, I'll be splitting work between an old Thinkpad (XP) and my iMac (which will be used for screencasts next week).
It's a free fix though, so I guess that's good.
