Tangosol
, the leading provider of solutions that help organizations achieve high
availability and extreme scalable performance for large-scale Java and J2EE
applications, announces the immediate availability of
Coherence 3.0.
With successful deployments in many of the world's largest financial institutions,
insurance, logistics and telecommunication companies, Coherence is the gold
standard for in-memory distributed data management, clustered caching, and
data-intensive grid computing for mission critical enterprise Java technology
applications. It is the product of choice for leading System Integrators and
corporate Information Technology (IT) organizations seeking to achieve exceptional
scalable performance, remove single points of failure, and optimize their use of
database and EIS resources.
According to Morten Lileng, Manager at Capgemini, "Coherence is a quality product
from a vendor we've grown to trust. The performance and scalability that we have
been able to achieve using Coherence has had a positive impact on our client work.
As importantly, just as we at Capgemini place customer success as the cornerstone
of our Collaborative Business Experience, Tangosol has demonstrated a commitment
to our success and the success of our customers."
Coherence 3.0 provides significant enhancements for organizations deploying and
managing large-scale clusters and grids. These new capabilities provide levels
of availability, reliability, manageability, scalability, performance and
flexibility for Java applications that were - until now - simply unattainable.
The featured enhancements in Coherence 3.0 include:
WAN Clustering enables global load-balancing and WAN failover for
data and compute grids, supporting enterprise business continuity strategies.
Clustered JMX provides real time monitoring, management and
configuration for the entire grid - or any part of the grid - from any server.
Read-Ahead Caching can completely eliminate load latencies by
predicting the data that needs to be ready in cache.
Custom Partitioning and Partition Affinity supercharge
the performance of large-scale data grids by controlling the locality of
data within scale-out environments.
"We're thrilled with the strategic direction that Tangosol has taken with the
Coherence 3.0 release," said Marty Dow, Chief Architect of Internet Systems at
GEICO. "Their focus on availability and manageability directly address our need
to provide seamless business continuity with datacenter failover, and to make
the whole thing as easy to manage as a single server application."
Tangosol pioneered the use of peer-to-peer clustering for building scalable data
grids and highly resilient information fabrics, and now extends that peer-to-peer
architecture to support disaster recovery sites and WAN environments. Coherence
3.0 now provides these capabilities without a requirement for multicast
communication, even for dynamic discovery!
Rich client applications can securely plug into the data grid for data feeds
and real-time events using the new bidirectional, WAN-optimized and firewall-friendly JMS connector.
Bruce Tate, author of 2005 Jolt-winner Better, Faster, Lighter Java has this
to say about Tangosol Coherence: "With Coherence, you can maintain a simple code
base, and still get extraordinary caching. You can run inside or outside an
application server, depending on the needs of your application. You can even
reduce your risk by clustering across two completely separate data centers,
and provide High Availability combined with in-memory data access speed for
any Java application. Tangosol Coherence lets your customers experience the
ultimate in availability, scalability and performance."
The new Coherence Management Framework provides a grid-wide JMX fabric for managing
and monitoring cache statistics, performance metrics and configuration settings
at the grid level, cache level, node level or any combination thereof. By fully
supporting the JMX standard, and by providing the view of the entire grid as a
locally manageable resource, Coherence provides the requisite plug to manage a
large-scale grid deployment from any application management tool.
"Coherence is a gem of simplicity in the J2EE world," said Rod Johnson, founder
of the Spring Framework and author of Expert One-on-One J2EE Design and
Development. "Coherence is well regarded for its ability to horizontally scale
out to hundreds of servers, and the concept of having that entire cluster locally
manageable from any server - as easily as the server could manage its own JMX
resources - is simply amazing."
Read-Ahead caching provides unparalleled performance and scalability to applications
that take advantage of 'just-in-time' information and data with a requirement for
periodic refresh. With Read-Ahead Caching, data eviction policies can proactively
load 'fresh' data into the cache, so that the application is always ready for the
next request. The effect can be the complete elimination of load latencies,
resulting in amazingly responsive applications.
"With an application like Jive Forums that handles millions of dynamic page
requests per day, cache misses and latencies get multiplied dramatically, which
can directly impact the user experience," said Matt Tucker, CTO of Jive Software.
"The read-ahead capability in Coherence 3.0 is a perfect fit, as it helps makes
sure that our most important data is always ready and up-to-date."
Custom Partitioning provides the means to direct and fine-tune data load balancing
within a data grid. While Coherence has always provided automatic data load balancing
and lossless failover, the ability to customize the data load balancing is new,
and is already proving its value in applications such as equities trading.
Partitioned Data Affinity takes advantage of the Custom Partitioning feature to
ensure that related objects are load-balanced to the same physical location. This
intelligent partitioning enables latency-free access to related data, accelerating
applications and large-scale grid computations that benefit from locality of data.
"Clustering data together in related groups is a key ingredient of Data Affinity,
which dramatically reduces network traffic and data access latencies in a Data Grid,
and contributes directly to higher throughput," adds Michael Di Stefano, author
of Wiley's Distributed Data Management for Grid Computing and CEO of Integrasoft.
"The ability in Coherence 3.0 to customize partitioning while retaining automatic
and lossless failover is a one-two punch. For example, this enables partitioning
of financial data by symbol within a large data grid, and can then force all related
data to cluster to the same server, while completely eliminating the single points
of failure common to in-memory data management systems."
Founded in 2000, Tangosol, Inc. is the industry leader in delivering data
clustering, grid computing, and caching solutions to organizations building
and running mission-critical enterprise Java and J2EE applications and application
components. Major banking, trading, logistics, travel, telecommunications, government
