Visual Paradigm is pleased to announce the release of Smart Development Environment 2.1 for Eclipse (SDE-EC), a full featured Eclipse UML plugin that provides the industry’s full round-trip code generation and code reverse engineering support for Java in a unified modeling environment with Eclipse. The latest release of SDE-EC features numerous new features and enhancement over the previous version, such as Object Relational Mapping (ORM), Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD), more extensive UML 2.0 coverage, enhanced Sequence Diagram and new freehand connector style (curve).

SDE-EC 2.1 provides extensive support for Object Relational Mapping (ORM) and ER Diagram (ERD). The tool helps generating the persistent Java source code you need to access database(s). It provides multiple database support which allows you to access various database system (MYSQL, Oracle, HSQLDB, MS SQL, Sybase …) with the same set of persistent source code. Another feature is the ability to generate database from Class Diagram or ERD. You can design your application with Class Diagram and ERD within SDE-EC, and generate database table from the resulting diagrams. The tool also facilitate in the reverse engineering of relational database(s). You can reverse engineer legacy database system (MySQL, Oracle, DB2, HypersonicSQL, MS SQL, Pointbase, Sybase, jTDS …) to Class Diagram and ERD.

In SDE-EC 2.1, UML 2.0 support is enhanced to cover new UML model, notation and diagrams more extensively, which includes Interaction Overview Diagram, Timing Diagram, Composite Structure Diagram, Activity Diagram, Sequence Diagram, ActivityPartition (Swimlane) ,Action, Exception Handler, Timing Frame, Port and many more. For Sequence Diagram, it is not only enhanced to support UML 2.0 notation, it is also improved in diagramming features and usability so that it is easier to use and more reliable than ever before.

Beside the rectilinear and oblique connector style, SDE-EC 2.1 adds the freehand connector style (curve) which makes it a lot easier to route connectors in a complex diagram.
