JTabbedPane update

I create a number tabbpane add a jpanel to it in the constructor. since a few other things have to happend before I later fill those panels with a number of different JComponents.
I also call revalidate on the components and repaint the lot.
Problem: the first tabb displays correctly, but all the others take quite some time to dispaly anything and it takes some wild clicking on the various tabb until they all show correctly.
