Building a JVM from scratch

Hi. I'm thinking of building a computing device, creating a
simple operating system for it, and writing a JVM for it.

The question is, how difficult will it be to write that JVM?

Partly for my own education and partly because I want to control
the direction of this JVM, I don't want adapt a commerical
product or open source material controlled by someone else.

I have Sun's specification and Bill Venner's book, but is there
any guides for writing a JVM?
