Printing image files on the printer

I am writting an application program in Java using the JDK1.2 in which I need to print text, drawings and pictures on the Printer. Using the 1.2 print API I am able to send text strings to the printer and have them print at any (x,y) location on the page. However I am facing problems with the image files. I am also able to print form components like a button or a panel or a frame on the printer. But the moment I add images (.bmp, .gif, or .jpg), it stops printing. Can anyone help ?
