Clearing a Html page

How do I clear a html page before showing an applet, the code used works fine in Netscape but doesnt work in IExplorer 5.0 , i am using the showDocument() function of the AppletContext class.

In IExplorer the earlier displayed page doesnt clear out.Are there any more html tags that i need to use for clearing out the page.
