Y consume() of InputEvent not working with JTextField

hi friends...
Actully in our project work we need the PhoneNumber field should not accept the characters..and special Symbols..for that
we tried out this consume() in AWT that is perfectly working but with Swing when we do same with JTextField that is not working ..for TextField is works nicely..can anyone give us the solution ...
