Thread and Swing

Iam new to Java/swing. I have multiple threads of execution in my application.
One of the thread is the Java/Swing GUI. The other threads
are shooting events to the swing components and the components dynamically update their
interfaces. My question is, if I have a modal dialog box open, does it freeze the
swing event despatcher thread. If so, no events will be processed.
Am I right ?
