If you want your java applet to load the correct version of the sun java plug-in use the HTML converter application available from SUN's website such as :
http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3.0_01/features.html
It will convert the webpage that loads your java applet so that it uses the plug-in and not the JVM for IE
