Image selection in Java

I have an application in which I am required to have a moving rectangle (with the mouse) on top of a loaded image and where-ever the user drops the rectangle on the image, the coordinates of the selected portion of the image are returned.

Are there any Java based applications / sample code which I could reuse to get solution to my requirements.
