Message:

no longer able to access java based content

Posted by Rami Benhameda on November 23, 2001 at 11:36 AM

For the last couple of months, I have not been able to access content on websites using java. An example would be on the cnn website, trying to access interactive content, All I get is error messages. Here is a specific example:
www.cnn.com has the following link "javascript:openWindow('/interactive/countrywatch/Afghanistan/frameset.exclude.html','620x430','toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=yes,resizable=no,width=620,height=430')"
which should create a pop-up window and allow me to view the "info on Afghanistan".

What I get instead is a pop up window that is blank, while on the main page in the status bar I get a yellow caution triangle with the message "error on page". When I click on this message, the following info is displayed " Line: 229 Char: 2 Error: The specified module could not be found. Code: 0 URL: http://www.cnn.com/

This is just one example of many, but representative of the others.
I'm running windows XP, MSIE 6, Cable Modem, no firewall, AdSubtract Pro as a proxy server with no changes to any Java content.

The problems persist regardless of settings. I've turned Adsubtract Pro off, set proxy settings on the browser to none, set security and privacy settings all the way down to low and still no change.

I downloaded the java plug in 1.4.0 and still no change.

I hope I've provided enough info for anyone who might be able to help me, but if not, let me know.

thanks,

Rami Benhameda
