problem in SPP mode

I have a problem interfacing with printer port.
since my computer is set in SPP(standard)mode, only unidirectional functions can be done.
even if i change this mode to EPP or ECP in the CMOS setup,
the actual functioning is only as SPP.how to use my printer port
for bidirectional applications.
please help me.
