You have to love the clowns at the RIAA - from what I can tell, they maintain a database of people in a certain income/wealth bracket, and then use a random number generator to figure out who to sue next. Consider the case of Scott Hinds - they accuse him of downloading and sharing 5 specific songs, but look at the "evidence" they have:
The allegation is that Hinds used an "online media distribution system" to download tunes, then distributed the copyrighted material to others.
The lawsuit doesn't identify the download service Hinds allegedly used, nor does it identify individual users who allegedly obtained the copyrighted music from Hinds.
According to the association, "online investigators searched for copyrighted recordings made available by individuals on peer-to-peer networks."
They then filed a lawsuit against Internet service providers prompting them to identify individuals who allegedly shared music files.
Here, let me translate: "We aren't sure how he stole it, what he used to steal it (and please don't ask us how we know what 5 songs he stole) - but he's young and can't afford a lawyer, so we can probably extort a few $K from him and scare people".
The RIAA is a sad, sad aggregation of losers who apparently feel very, very inadequate. It's enough to make me wonder what they are over compensating for...
