Jini Lookup Service Reggie

Posted by Jakob Jenkov on November 13, 2000 at 2:57 PM

Hi Chris!

The lookup service is not supposed to run for more than 30-60 secs. What it actually does is only to register an ACTIVATABLE OBJECT with rmid. When the registration is complete, rmid don't need the registration program any more, and neither do you !!
Rmid keeps a log of all registered services (including Reggie), so that you only need to start rmid to make them available. Rmid then receives any request for any activatable object (RMI), and if the object is not already running in a vm, rmid starts up a vm for the activatable object. Clever eh ? :-) Therefore you only need to register Reggie once with rmid, provided you don't delete rmid's log-files, or if you want to run multiple Reggie's.

I'll post my service parameters in another message shortly.

Regards,
Jakob Jenkov
