Message:

Possible solution to your problem...

Posted by Chris Dixon on November 08, 2000 at 11:58 PM

Hello,

I was getting the same error for a while. It looks like there are two policy files within the JINI1_1\example\lookup folder. One is "policy" and one is "policy.all".

The first one looks like some kind of template to use if you were going to actually use a policy file with some security restrictions. It, however, does not allow you to create the Version_Number file (required, apparently), even though it has read, delete, etc. permissions. It also looks like it has some IP addresses that are there just for show.

Therefore, try the policy.all file and you will find that you will no longer get your error. However, another problem exists. Your lookup service will run for about 30 seconds and then die... (at least mine did) without giving any error or whatever. As Marvin Martian says, 'where is the kaboom?'.

Furthermore, if you try the 'Browser' example to see if your service is running, which apparently should happen according to the book that I am reading (Core JINI from Sun), you get the message 'No registrars to select'. I have even tried to run the browser within the 30 seconds that my lookup service should be working, but to no avail.

Another hurdle I suppose. I would welcome any feeback from those of you who have been through this before.

Thanks!
